“Strength Through Our Roots”
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow"
The phrase "mighty oaks from little acorns grow" is found in Geoffrey Chaucer’s work "Troilus and Criseyde" around 1374. This saying suggests that great achievements often begin with modest beginnings. Variants of the phrase have appeared in literature since then, but the exact wording of "mighty oaks from little acorns grow" is credited to A. B. Johnson in 1841.
Suggested scholars' meanings include:
1) Great things can come from small beginnings.
2) Small efforts can grow into something powerful over time.
3) Success and strength develop gradually, not instantly.
4) Even the biggest achievements start from something small.
If ever there was one phrase that captures the essence of the Akehurst
Family and all its variations, through past and current lives. this is the one.
Akehurst Family History Society is dedicated to genealogical research into the Akehurst Surname and all of its variants.
Originating from a single message that crossed continents, there were only five newly formed members with electronic contact: Colin Ackehurst and David Evans (DOZ) inAustralia, Shirley Akehurst and David Brown (DUK) in the UK, and David Murdock (DAZ) in the US.
This was the start of it all. On 9 March 1995, the first Akehurst-er Newsletter was put together, giving details of members around the world.
The society has grown from just four passionate researchers to a vibrant community of 220 members. Harnessing the power of technology, we continue to uncover connections and stories and celebrate our shared heritage.
